Tinnitus is described as noises in the ears or head. It is normally described as a ringing sound however, some people hear sounds such as buzzing, humming, whistling, tunes or sounds. It is common for the sounds to change. Approximately 17-20% of the Australian population suffer from tinnitus to varying degrees. Among other treatments, hearing aids are routinely prescribed in the UK for tinnitus.
Myself and others have found that earbuds and headphones with Active Noise Cancelling have been very effective in providing tinnitus relief.
The Action on Hearing Loss (AOHL), Tinnitus Forum lets you share your tinnitus experiences and pick up tips from others. It's also a great support community with threaders from around the world.
If you know of an Australian forum, please contact me and let me know.
